CSM Baseball Stands At 8-18 After Two Month Of Play
La Plata, MD- The College of Southern Maryland Baseball Team sits at 8-18 after the first two months of the season. CSM has had an up and down start so far, the guys are looking for more consistent play from all three phases to help start stacking up wins. There have been games where one of either pitching, scoring, and outfield play have been good but in the other two areas it could be improved. Assistant Coach Zach Roll talked about improving this saying "Consistency has been a crucial part of our successes, and we just need to find a way to put it all together every game."
The Hawks have had good moments, opening the season with a two-game series sweep against Delaware Tech. Shutting out Anne Arundel 9-0 back on March 8th, that saw pitcher Chase Bart strike out a season high 11- batters.
CSM had a gutsy comeback against Mercer County where they trailed 6-0 in the second inning, and went on to score nine straight runs to win 9-7. There were three CSM batters with at least three RBIs and seven batters with one hit or more. Bradley Hill led the way going 3-4 at the plate with three RBIs and Waldy Reyes had a two-run homer to go along with a stolen base.
Roll expressed confidence that the coaches and him have in this group to turn things around and keep competing the rest of the way. "We have played some good competition to prepare us for the long stretch of conference games we have coming up, it's never how you start it's how you finish, and I am confident we will come together and show our true potential the last half of the season.
Looking ahead CSM enters a stretch where they have key series against conference opponents such as Montgomery College, Garrett College, Prince George's, Hagerstown, CCBC Dundalk, Cecil, Frederick, and CCBC Catonsville. It'll be interesting to see how things play out, but the Hawks are ready for the upcoming challenge.
