By Zach Roll
Nick Porovne has been named the interim head coach for the men's soccer team, bringing a wealth of coaching experience and a fresh perspective to the team. Porovne, who has been a prominent figure in the local soccer community, steps into this new role with an impressive track record and a deep understanding of the game.
Porovne's soccer journey is marked by a diverse and successful coaching career. His tenure at CSM began with the women's soccer team, where he demonstrated his capabilities as both an assistant coach and, briefly, as the interim head coach. During his six months as interim head coach for the CSM Women's Soccer team from November 2021 to April 2022, Porovne showed his adeptness at managing a team and navigating the challenges of a head coach role. His success in that period paved the way for his promotion to associate head coach for the women's team, a position he currently holds.
Last year Porovne became well-acquainted with the team's dynamics and developed strong relationships with the players. His tenure as assistant coach concluded in August 2023, but his impact on the team was significant and will surely inform his approach as interim head coach.
Beyond his time at CSM, Porovne has garnered extensive experience through his roles with various clubs. As the Director of Coaching at Waldorf Soccer Club since June 2022, and previously as the Junior Academy Director there, he has been instrumental in shaping young talent and fostering a strong soccer culture. His role as Travel Age Group Director at FC Charles 1658 and his long-standing position as Travel Head Coach for the same club highlight his commitment to developing players at various levels.
Porovne is currently pursuing his C License through the U.S. Soccer Federation (USSF), further demonstrating his dedication to advancing his coaching qualifications. Holding a D License already, he continues to build on his expertise to provide the best guidance for his teams.
As Porovne takes charge of the men's team, all eyes will be on how his leadership will shape the upcoming season. With his extensive background in coaching and a clear vision for the future, he is poised to make a significant impact. The CSM community, players, and fans alike are eager to see the results of Porovne's strategic approach and his commitment to fostering a winning culture on the field.
When asked what his goals are for this season, Coach Porovne said
"The goal for this season is to make the playoffs. This team has more talent than was shown in the first two games, and I believe we can turn this season around and make it a successful campaign."
