CSM Hawks fall to Louisburg Hurricanes
The CSM Hawks put up a strong second-half effort against the Louisburg Hurricanes Saturday night but ultimately lost 101-107.
It took a few minutes for the Hawks to settle into their offensive game plan, and that proved to be the difference. The Hurricanes got out to an early lead and the Hawks struggled to sustain control of this game.
However, CSM's play greatly improved in the second half. Players found their touch shooting the ball and the defense was almost enough to give the Hawks a win.
Darnell Taylor came out on a mission to start the second half, scoring 10 points in the first five minutes and cutting the Louisburg lead to 60-59. Taylor finished the night with 24 points with 15 coming in the second half. Jerome Savoy was able to find his offensive gear in the second half as well, scoring all of his 13 points in the second half. The Hawks also received production from Miguel Evereteze and Jaleen Sauls, who contributed 17 and 12 points, respectively. Freshman Jason Newman was CSM's leading scorer with 26 points.
In their attempt to come back and beat Louisburg, the Hawks amped up their defensive pressure in the last five minutes of the game, causing turnovers and not allowing the Hurricanes to set up their offense.
CSM quickly trimmed Louisburg's lead down from 15 points to five after Taylor hit one of his four three-pointers on the night, making the score 93-88 with four minutes left to play.
The Hawks started applying half-court pressure in the last few minutes of the game, causing two Louisburg turnovers on back-to-back plays. However, the Hurricanes adjusted to the pressure and found success scoring in the paint to ensure their victory.
CSM will look to rebound with a win November 20th against Cecil College.
