Ferguson's Walk Off Homer and Norris's Two-Run Bomb Powers CSM Sweep Over Frederick

 

 

La Plata, MD- CSM softball swept the Frederick Community College Cougars in back-to-back games coming back to win Game One in 8 innings 5-4 and Game Two 10-2. Game One was the first game this year that the Hawks had to go to extra innings. The Hawks start off April with two wins continuing their hot & historic year staying undefeated on the season.

 

Game One: CSM (13-0, 8-0 Region 20) and Frederick (2-10, 1-6 Region 20) would each score a run in the second inning tying the game at 1-1. Both starting pitchers would keep the game scoreless until the eighth inning, the Cougars would score three runs to take a comfortable three run lead entering the bottom half of the inning. Maddie Jury hit a double, which was followed up by a two-run homer to left field by Laci Johnson cutting the lead down to one. The Hawks would draw a hit by pitcher, and Abby Norris doubled putting two runners in scoring position. Ashley Ferguson belted a walk off two-run RBI double to right field leading to a 5-4 win.

 

Game Two: The Hawks got off to a fast start scoring four runs in the second inning, Norris hit an RBI single, followed by a runner advancing home, and Raelynn Hood had a two-run RBI double. Norris later hit a two-run homer and RBI single producing three more of the ten total runs. Laci Wood would finish with a RBI double and Lexi Drayer added a two-run RBI single. CSM only allowed two runs, winning 10-2.

 

Key Performances:

 

Pitcher Laci Wood pitched a complete game in Game one surrendering four runs, eleven hits, striking out four runners. Wood gutted out a tough back-and-forth game, ultimately helping CSM to the win.

 

Pitcher Kayla Twigg pitched a complete game as well in the second game, allowing only two runs, six hits, and striking out four batters. She is now 6-0 on the mound in her six starts.

 

Up Next: CSM is back in action at the Allegany College of Maryland Trojans on April 3rd for a doubleheader series at 3 p.m. and 5 p.m.
