CSM Cruises Past Nighthawks

The College of Southern Maryland Hawks women's basketball team cruised to victory over the Northern Virginia Community College Nighthawks on December 19, beating them by a score of 88-42.

CSM dominated the second half, holding NOVA to single-digit scoring in each quarter and 15 points total in the final 20 minutes of the game.

Freshmen Karalina Lawrence and Kirsten Hamilton both scored a game-high 18 points. Lawrence recorded her sixth double-double of the season as she also grabbed 14 total rebounds. Hamilton went 6-12 from the floor and 2-6 from 3-point range. Both players went 4-5 from the free-throw line.

Sophomore Amaya Yancey also picked up a double-double with her 15 points and 10 assists.

Freshman Chenice Lewis had a full stat line with 10 points, eight steals, six rebounds, six assists, and two blocks.

CSM caused 33 NOVA turnovers, and scored 32 points off of those turnovers.

CSM now has a 4-5 record. Their next game is January 8 at Bryant & Stratton College (VA) at 6 p.m. The Hawks took the first meeting between these two schools earlier this year, beating the Bobcats 55-52.
