Hawks Fall to CCBC Essex in Overtime

The College of Southern Maryland women's soccer team fell in overtime to the No. 15-ranked CCBC Essex Knights on September 28 by a score of 4-3.

CCBC Essex jumped out to a 3-0 lead in the first 14 minutes of the game, scoring their first two goals within 20 seconds of each other in the ninth minute.

The Hawks started chipping away at the Knights' lead with a goal from Amber Harris in the 20th minute, her third of the season.

Janel Reyes finished an assist from Baker in front of a wide open goal in the 39th minute to put the score at 3-2 before heading to halftime.

The Hawks were the hungrier team in the second half, desperate for the tying goal. They found it in the 82nd minute when Baker banged home a loose ball in the 18-yard box that got away from the Knights' goalie.

CSM's comeback effort could not be completed, however, as the Knights found the back of the net in the fifth minute of overtime, snatching a victory away from the Hawks.

With the loss, CSM's overall record dropped to 2-6.
