Hawks Blank Howard

The College of Southern Maryland Hawks women's soccer team shut out the Howard Community College Dragons 1-0 on September 26 to improve their record to 5-3-1 overall and 3-1-1 in Region 20 Division II.

Freshman midfielder/forward Megan Hinton scored the game-winning goal on a penalty kick in the 58th minute, notching her team-high 10th goal of the season. Freshman defender Cali Barber sent a marvelous pass from the midfield line to an attacking Hinton who outran Howard defenders before being taken down in the penalty box.

Hinton had an earlier attempt at a penalty kick in the first minute of the second half that went wide right to keep the game tied.

Hinton ended the game with eight shots and five shots on goal. She currently leads Region 20 Division II in goals with 10.

Howard had a solid chance to score in the first half with a shot off the crossbar.

Freshman goalkeeper Natalie Schiavone had a season-high 10 saves to secure the shutout.

CSM capitalized on their offensive opportunities in the second half. While Howard outshot CSM 9-6 in the first half, CSM outshot 14-5 in the second half.

Freshman forward Alexis Corcoran had five shots and three on goal, and freshman midfielder/forward Kylee Flint added three shots and one on goal.
